This route extends from the Yarlung Tsangpo River valley to the Himalayas in west-east direction known as "the Roof the World". Major objectives are to examine Early Cenozoic Gangdise pericontinental arc, the Yarlung Tsangpo plate suture zone and relicts of Neo-Tethy oceanic crust, the well-developed Palaeozoic and Mesozoic passive marginal sedimentary sections in Nyalam county, widely-exposed Mesozoic and Cenozoic flysch and molasse formations along the Yarlung Tsangpo River valley and metamorphic nucleus complexes in the Higher Himalaya area. |
